sensuous architecture
September 22, 2011 | in I ADORE!, Style Crush i LOVE NPR and especially Tom Ashbrook (major crush). this morning he was talking with famed architect, Frank Gehry. while i have never been in one of Gehry's buildings (not even the MIT one) i am now putting it on my list of to-do-soon. Gehry's appreciation of movement, curves and "exciting" architecture is intoxicating. he humbly stated in the interview that "we live with movement and folds- like being folded in a mother's arms". he talked about being inspired by the movement/energy in ancient stone and marble sculpture and his admiration for buildings that have "juice" and "make people feel good". to me his work is so feminine, fertile and alive. i am reminded of the Venus of Willendorf. (this is probably such a bad analogy- but i had to share)
